The First New Style EPF Main Conference Prague:
April 4-7 2002
Held by Invitation of The Czech Psychoanalytical Society (Provisional) at Prague, hotel Hilton
The European Psychoanalytical Federation invites you to attend the first of its new style annual conferences in Prague: April 4-7 2002.
We intend that beginning in Prague EPF annual conferences will be significantly different to previous EPF meetings and to most other psychoanalytic conferences:
- Only three hours will be devoted to large plenary sessions so that the focus can be on working together and creating deeper working relationships in much smaller groups.
- There is no single main theme. There are several constructed sets of linked meetings, aimed to provide different experiences for differently inclined colleagues:
- Clinical discussion: Building a language to learn from each other.
- How external reality impacts the psychoanalytic process and is used in it.
- Psychoanalytic practice and research and developments in neuroscience and modern psychiatry.
- Work in Progress.
. The analyst as a beginner
. Psychoanalysis with patients who do not really know they want psychoanalysis
. Psychoanalytic treatment of psychotic and severely ill patients
. Leadership Experience in Psychoanalytic Societies
. Clinical Research in the Mediterranean Psychoanalytic Societies
- Each linked set of events will include small work groups.
- There will be strong encouragement to discuss themes by presenting and discussing detailed clinical work.
- Active participation is encouraged. Any colleagues from an EPF member society may propose a paper or panel event related to one of the officially organised themes or to the Work in Progress section. Please submit as soon as possible!
- Some meetings (including the discussion of how to create an improved method to compare clinical work) will provide an opportunity to take part in depth in presently ongoing EPF projects, those organised by the EPF working groups or "ad hoc" groups established in 2000.
- In addition, as successfully begun in Madrid 2002, the late afternoon sessions on Friday and Saturday will comprise events open to all: progress meetings of the EPF Working Groups; progress meetings of the EPF Ad Hoc groups on child analysis, adolescent analysis, trauma, clinical confidentiality: sessions concerned with Woman and Psychoanalysis, Psychoanalysis and Film studies, Meet the Author, Writing a Psychoanalytic Paper, etc.
What does not change is our wish to talk to each other across language barriers. Simultaneous translation into English, French, and German of major sessions will be available and there will also be many two- or three-language events.

Before this Conference 3 PRECONFERENCES will take place:
9. East Europian Psychoanalytic Conference
will take place from 3rd to 4th April 2002 in Prague hotel Krystal, Jose Martiho 2/407, Prague 6.
Theme of the conference is "The Mystery in Psychoanalysis". The main lecturers will be Michel Gribinski (Paříž), Han Groen-Prakken (Amsterdam), Wojciech Hanbowski (Varšava), Václav Mikota (Praha) and Tamara Stajner-Popović (Bělehrad). Working language - English.

EPF Preconference on Adolescent psychoanalysis
will take place on 4th April in the afternoon in hotel Hilton, Prague.
Conference fee is 20 Euro on condition of registration for the main conference EPF.
Preconference on Child Psychoanalysis
will take place on 4th April in hotel Hilton, Prague.
It will deal with the clinical work with children. Participants will work in small groups.
Conference fee is 46 Euro on condition of registration for the main conference EPF.
